Charles Strouse is one of Broadway’s most celebrated composers and May 2008 marks the start of his 80th birthday year. Classically trained with Aaron Copeland and Nadia Boulanger, he composed the musicals Annie, Applause, Bye-Bye Birdie, Rags, Nick & Nora, Golden Boy and It’s A Bird, It’s A Plane, It’s Superman, amongst others, as well as writing an opera ‘Nightingale’ which successfully ran in London in 1982 starring Sarah Brightman. Strouse was also a prolific film composer with scores for Bonnie & Clyde and The Night They Raided Minsky’s.
This concert features his most well known work, performed by leading West End principals and accompanied by a symphony orchestra.
