George Gershwin was the world’s first truly popular composer. Dozens of his songs became instant standards such as The Man I Love, I Got Rhythm, Somebody Loves Me, Fascinatin’ Rhythm, Strike Up the Band, S’Wonderful, Swanee, They All Laughed, Let’s Call the Whole Thing Off and the immortal Our Love is Here to Stay. His concert music includes An American in Paris, Porgy & Bess, The Concerto in F and the brilliant and original Rhapsody in Blue.
This concert has been created to satisfy the constant demand by symphony orchestras and the public alike for a cross-over style concert featuring this great composer. It is highly suitable as a commercial venture that sits happily within an orchestra’s subscription series or as a one-off special event.
Two singers and a concert pianist join forces with the orchestra and the programme includes two Gershwin Overtures to showcase the orchestra, a host of songs and either the Piano Concerto in F or Rhapsody in Blue.
